Power Of Attorney | Legalization or Apostil?

A document issues outside of Georgia need legalization or Appostilling.  Legalizing/apostilling a document means certifying the authenticity of a signature, powers of a signatory, seal or stamp of the document.

Apostilling a document is a single-stage procedure and implies the authentication of a document by one specific agency alone. An apostilled document can be used in the territory of any state that is party to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 on Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (see detailed information about the parties to this convention on the website).

In contrast to apostilling, the legalization is a long procedure which involves several entities. In the process of legalization, a document shall be legalized by a consular department of a recipient country (consular legalization), following which the document can be used in this particular foreign country alone.

Legalization is required for those states which are not parties to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 on Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. Legalization is also required for the Republic of Greece.
